Win 2003 to Win 2008 R2 printer migration

We're in 2011 - and who would have thought printer migration still would have sucked so much! Hopefully this post will help it suck a little less for some of you. My migration situation: Moving from Novell and iPrint to 2008 R2 (as part of a bigger AD migration project) Printer drivers and definitions are…

Stuck in the HP support void

When it comes to corporate hardware (server and workstations) we often get asked who do we recommend. From my point of iew, their all ok - HP/Dell/IBM/Lenovo/Acer - some people have a preference for the HP CMI tools or ILO, others dont mind DRAC and OCMI tools etc - all of them have their strong…

MS – some DB consistency ?

A employee of mine pointed out this quote from an SQL webpage "HADR" is a high-availability and disaster recovery solution introduced in SQL Server Code-Named “Denali” to enable you to maximize availability for one or more of your user databases. Deploying "HADR" involves configuring one or more availability groups. Each availability group establishes the context…

Exchange 2010 – cannot create users after demoting DC

At one of our client sites, we had an issue where the client could no longer create exchange 2010 mailboxes after a DC was demoted. Exchange 2010 – OWA

99% of the time i use RPC/HTTP (or Outlook anywhere) to access my mail externally, but the other day i was forced to use OWA for the first time since i updated to Exchange 2010 SP1. What a pleasant surprise. OWA has been given a minor, yet nice graphical overhaul that makes it look about…

Exchange 2010 SP1 – EWS not available externally

After upgrading to Exchange 2010 SP1 over the weekend (i lead an exciting life) - and believing that all was fine, i found this week, while away, that i couldnt set an out-of-office auto-reply while connected via RPC/HTTP. This was fairly obviously something to do with the Exchange Web services (EWS) IIS directory not being…

Free Speech

Australia is a free nation, free to think what we want, say what want, do what we want... as long as we dont choose to use that freedom to think or say things deemed as "bad" by someone, somewhere... http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/09/10/3008863.htm Just as well we have freedom... our federal politicans are a bunch of spineless evil…
